P2 Overall for Harry George in the Heat at Snetterton

The British GT Championship returned to UK soil for Rounds 6 and 7 at Snetterton, with the weekend structured around two intense one-hour races. The Optimum Motorsport duo of Harry George and teammate Luca arrived with momentum and confidence and they’d need both, as the heat was unrelenting all weekend long.

Testing and Setup – Calm Before the Storm

Friday’s testing sessions saw the team dial in a strong setup for the high-speed, twisty Norfolk circuit. Despite the hot conditions, both drivers reported a well-balanced car. Their efforts paid off, going 4th fastest in pre-qualifying with a 1:57.557, while still holding performance in reserve.

Qualifying – A Pole and a Setback

Qualifying 1 saw Luca deliver one of his best performances of the season. A flying lap of 1:54.989 put him comfortably on pole position, a huge 0.704 seconds clear of P2. It was a dominant display and set the team up perfectly for Race 1.

Qualifying 2 was less smooth. Harry went out early in the session but clipped the tyre stack at Turn 5 on his second lap, bringing his run to an unfortunate early end. The incident meant they’d be starting P8 for Race 2, leaving work to do on Sunday.

Race 1 – Fighting All the Way

Luca started Race 1 from the front but was immediately challenged by the straight-line speed of the Ginetta. He held on well before handing over to Harry at the halfway mark. Harry fought a tough stint, battling door-to-door in the heat whilst putting pressure on the lead car.

After an intense final push, the pair brought the car home in P3 overall and P2 in the Silver Class. Another strong result to add to their growing tally.

Race 2 – Comeback Drive Through the Pack

Race 2 saw the team start from P8, but both drivers were determined not to let that define their race. Harry took the start and immediately began carving through the field, gaining places in the early laps and handing the car over in a strong position. Luca kept the momentum going, pushing hard in the closing stages to climb up to P4 overall and once again P2 in Silver.

It was a gritty, determined drive from both drivers and the Optimum team  a clear reminder of their pace and resilience.

Momentum Builds Ahead of the Next Round

Harry and Luca leave Snetterton with valuable championship points and another boost of confidence. Despite the setback in qualifying, the team kept their heads down and delivered across both races proving again they’re in the fight for silverware every weekend.

Next stop: Brands Hatch GP. And the title charge continues.
