First Overall Podium for Harry George at A Wet and Wild Oulton Park
The third round of the British GT Championship brought a change in format and fresh challenges for Harry George and teammate Luca Hopkinson as they tackled the tight and technical Oulton Park Circuit. With two one-hour races replacing the usual endurance format, the team knew execution across every lap would be crucial.
Friday Testing – Confidence and Clean Running
The weekend kicked off on Friday with productive test sessions that allowed the team to iron out any lingering issues from previous rounds. Both drivers reported solid pace and a strong feeling in the car heading into qualifying day. The confidence was high.
Saturday Qualifying – Fast but Frustrating
Qualifying brought both promise and frustration. Luca was up first for Qualifying 1, delivering an incredibly quick lap that would have secured pole position overall, but it was sadly deleted due to track limits. Forced to go again under pressure, he managed to recover and still secure P2 overall and P1 in the Silver Class. Though it felt like a missed opportunity for a their first pole position.
Harry was next up for Qualifying 2 and faced tricky timing. With only one lap before the rain hit the circuit, he had to make it count on slicks in rapidly deteriorating conditions. He nailed it as best he could, placing the car P5 overall and P2 in Silver, despite feeling there was more potential in the dry.
Monday Races – Redemption and First Overall Podium
Race 1 saw Luca take the start, with the car showing strong pace throughout the hour. Despite a solid stint and clean driving from both drivers, their pit stop time of a mandatory 14 seconds didn’t help against the Pro Am line up time of 7 seconds , eventually crossing the line P4 overall and P2 in the Silver Class. Another strong result, though the podium remained just out of reach.
Race 2, however, delivered the breakthrough. Rain soaked the track, creating treacherous conditions for all. Harry took the start and immediately made up positions with a clean, confident launch. He battled hard through the opening laps, avoiding incidents and managing the slick surface with control and determination.
After a clean handover, Luca brought it home in style. The pair crossed the line to claim their first overall podium of the season with P2, along with P1 in the Silver Class. A richly deserved reward after a weekend of mixed emotions.
Eyes Forward, Momentum Building
With their first overall podium finish, Harry and Luca team have clearly established themselves as serious contenders. The team now shifts focus to the next round at Spa-Francorchamps.
Congratulations to Optimum for achieving the Team of the weekend award.
