Hard-Fought RACE AT THE SILVERSTONE 500
Round two of the 2025 British GT Championship brought Harry George and his teammate Luca Hopkinson to the legendary Silverstone Circuit for the Silverstone 500. The longest race on the calendar. With a fresh mind after Donington the pair was ready to show their pace.
Productive Testing Sets the Tone
Friday testing saw the Optimum Motorsport crew and drivers make the most of the time on track. Both Harry and Luca settled into the rhythm of the fast flowing GP layout quickly, fine tuning the setup and gaining valuable data. With pace in the car and a strong balance under them, expectations were high heading into Saturday’s qualifying.
Qualifying – Front Running Pace
Harry was first to take the wheel in the two part qualifying format and delivered another composed and competitive performance. A clean run and consistent laps saw him place the car P2 in session one with a time of 2:09.377, giving Luca a strong platform for session two.
Luca responded with a fast lap of 2:08.578, placing the duo P4 overall and P2 in the Silver Class.
Race Day – Strong Drive, Tough Break with Safety Car
Sunday’s Silverstone 500 delivered its usual share of drama, and Harry and Luca were right in the thick of it. The pair started strong, holding their ground and battling fairly through the early stages. However, the race took a turn when a poorly timed safety car disrupted their strategy, costing valuable track position and time.
Despite the setback, Luca put in an incredible charge, closing down a 28 second gap to the car ahead. As the chequered flag dropped, the gap to P3 overall was down to just 1.4 seconds, with the pair ultimately crossing the line P4 overall and securing a well-earned P2 in the Silver Class.
Onward with Momentum
While a podium overall was just out of reach, the performance across the weekend showed once again that Harry, Luca, and Optimum Motorsport are a serious force in the Silver Class and well capable of mixing it with the front runners. With consistent qualifying pace and strong race craft the team now looks ahead to the next round full of confidence.
